The History of Chebeague Clown College
The Chebeague Clown College started unofficially in 1994 when Malcolm convinced his college buddy Harry to join him in the annual parade. The two were such a hit that Rochelle was soon on board as “Old Spice’s” right hand clown.
Past year events have included an educational experience for children at the Chebeague Island Recreation Summer Day Camp. It seems many children are afraid of clowns. During the workshop they participated in helping “Old Spice” put his make-up, nose, hat and gloves on creating a safe feeling for the children.
Today, the College boasts seven clowns and has grown to include a Limousine Driver, a Music Man and a Costume and Make-Up Staff. The Clowns have become quite the hit of the parade and can be seen on many a Christmas card taken by gleeful parents!
